If there is one little travel tech item we like having in the bag, it is a Fire TV Stick.
We have had good luck at most hotels plugging one into the room TV so we can watch our own shows, stay signed in to our apps, and pick up where we left off with our saved watch history. It makes a hotel room feel a little more normal at the end of a long travel day.
We usually carry the 4K version because it is faster and more flexible. For us, it is not just about whether the hotel TV supports 4K. It is also about having a streaming stick that feels a little smoother when we are moving between apps, signing in, or using it at home and on the road.
There are a few caveats, though. Some hotel TVs have the HDMI ports disabled, some make it hard to switch inputs, and hotel Wi-Fi can be a little annoying depending on the property. And based on our Norwegian cruise experience, we would not count on using a Fire TV Stick on a cruise ship TV. Our understanding is that this is true for most cruise lines, because cabin TVs are usually more restricted than hotel TVs.

For us, this is not really about replacing a home streaming setup. It is about having something small and easy to pack that can make travel nights a little more comfortable.
A Fire TV Stick may be useful if you:

We usually carry a 4K Fire Stick when we travel because it is faster and more flexible. For hotel rooms, 4K may not matter every time. But if you also plan to use the device at home, at a vacation rental, or on a newer TV, having 4K support gives it more flexibility.

This is the performance pick. It costs more than the others, but it is the model we would compare if you want the strongest Fire TV Stick option in the group.

The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the one to consider if this is not just a travel backup device. If you want something for your main TV, a better home setup, or a device that feels faster when jumping between apps, the Max is the most appealing option here.
For travel, the stronger specs may or may not matter depending on the hotel Wi-Fi and TV setup. A faster streaming stick cannot fix a locked-down hotel TV or a weak Wi-Fi connection. But if you also use it at home, the extra performance may be worth the higher price.

Which Fire TV Stick Would We Pick?
If we were choosing strictly for travel, we would look first at one of the 4K models. We usually carry the 4K version because it is faster and more flexible, and we like having the option to use it at hotels, vacation rentals, guest rooms, or at home.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Select may be the best value if it stays close in price to the HD model. It gives you more flexibility than the HD version without jumping into the higher price range.
If we wanted one device for both home and travel, we would compare the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and Fire TV Stick 4K Max. The 4K Max is the stronger device, but the 4K Plus may be enough if the price gap matters.
If we just wanted the cheapest possible way to add streaming to an older TV, the Fire TV Stick HD is the budget pick.
The biggest thing is to buy based on how you will actually use it. A travel-only Fire Stick does not need to be the most expensive one. A main TV device probably deserves a little more thought.

For us, it is one of those small items that can make a hotel stay feel easier when it works. We just do not treat it as a guarantee.

A Fire TV Stick is not the flashiest travel item, but it is one we like having with us.
When it works, it lets us watch our own shows, use our own streaming profiles, and keep our saved history instead of hunting through hotel TV menus. That is especially nice after a long travel day when we just want something familiar.
For cruises, we would not buy one expecting to use it onboard. Our Norwegian experience has been that cruise ship TVs are too restricted for that to be reliable, and our understanding is that most cruise lines are similar.
