Celebrity Cruises is one of the cruise lines we think is worth understanding, even though we are not going to pretend we are Celebrity experts yet.
We have spent a lot more time sailing and writing about Norwegian Cruise Line, and we have recently started building out more Princess Cruises content as we continue learning that product more deeply. Celebrity is a little different for us right now.
It is a cruise line we want to understand better because it may be a very good fit for certain travelers, especially people who want something a little more elevated than a casual mainstream cruise without necessarily jumping all the way into luxury cruising.
This is not a full Celebrity review. We have not sailed Celebrity yet, so this article is based on research, comparison, and the kinds of questions we would ask before recommending it to ourselves or someone else.

What Is Celebrity Cruises Known For?
Celebrity generally positions itself as a premium cruise line. That word matters because Celebrity is not usually talked about the same way people talk about Carnival or Royal Caribbean, but it is also not usually positioned the same way as ultra-luxury cruise lines.
It sits somewhere in the middle, which can make it interesting for travelers who want a cruise that feels a little more polished, a little more adult-focused, and a little more elevated than some of the more casual mainstream cruise options.
More detail: What Celebrity may offer
Celebrity may appeal to people who like the idea of:
- A more modern ship design
- A somewhat quieter or more refined onboard feel
- Stronger food and service expectations
- Better adult spaces
- More destination-focused itineraries
- A premium feel without going fully luxury
That does not automatically mean Celebrity is better than other cruise lines.
It just means the fit may be different.
Who Celebrity Cruises May Be Best For
Celebrity may be a good fit for travelers who want a cruise that still feels approachable, but maybe not quite as loud, crowded, or activity-heavy as some other mainstream options.
If someone wants a more relaxed cruise with good food, stylish spaces, interesting itineraries, and a slightly more elevated atmosphere, Celebrity becomes much more interesting.
More detail: Who may want to consider Celebrity
Celebrity may be worth considering for:
- Couples
- Adults traveling without kids
- Empty nesters
- Travelers who like Princess but want to compare another premium-style option
- Travelers who want something more refined than Carnival or Royal Caribbean
- People who care more about food, service, and ship feel than thrill attractions
- Alaska, Europe, Caribbean, and destination-focused travelers
- People who want a premium experience but are not ready to pay luxury cruise prices
That last point may be the key.
Celebrity may work well for travelers who are not necessarily chasing the cheapest cruise, but still care about value.
Celebrity May Be A Good Step Up From Mainstream Cruising
One reason Celebrity is interesting is that it may be a natural step up for someone who has already tried a more casual mainstream cruise line and wants something a little different.
For someone who wants something a little nicer, a little quieter, and a little more polished, Celebrity may belong on the research list.
More detail: When Celebrity may start to make sense
Someone might enjoy Norwegian’s flexibility, Royal Caribbean’s big ships, or Carnival’s fun energy, but eventually want a cruise that feels less busy and more polished.
Celebrity could be one of the cruise lines to compare in that situation.
That does not mean everyone should “move up” to Celebrity.
Some travelers love the energy, entertainment, families, and activities on other cruise lines. For them, Celebrity may feel too quiet or not activity-heavy enough.
But for someone who has started saying things like:
- “We want something a little nicer.”
- “We do not need all the kids’ activities.”
- “We care more about the food and atmosphere.”
- “We want a more relaxed ship.”
- “We are willing to pay a little more if the experience fits us better.”
Celebrity may belong on the research list.
Celebrity Versus Princess: The Comparison We Want To Learn More About
For us, one of the more interesting comparisons is Celebrity versus Princess.
Both may appeal to travelers who want something a little more refined than the most casual mainstream cruise lines, but they are not the same product.
More detail: Why this comparison matters
Princess is already a cruise line we are starting to learn more about, especially as we build out Princess content and help clients evaluate Princess sailings.
Celebrity and Princess can overlap in some ways. Both may appeal to couples, adults, and travelers who care about itinerary, food, and onboard atmosphere.
Princess often seems to have a more traditional cruise feel, and it has strong positioning in areas like Alaska, longer itineraries, and classic cruising.
Celebrity often appears to lean a little more modern, stylish, and premium.
That is one of the reasons we do not want to oversimplify the comparison.
The better question is not, “Is Celebrity better than Princess?”
The better question is, “Which one fits this specific traveler and this specific trip?”
That depends on the itinerary, ship, cabin, package, pricing, perks, and what the traveler actually wants onboard.
Celebrity Versus Norwegian: A Different Kind Of Cruise
Celebrity may also be worth comparing against Norwegian, but we would not expect the experience to feel the same.
Norwegian has been a strong fit for how we often like to cruise. Celebrity may be better for a different kind of trip.
More detail: How we would compare the fit
Norwegian is known for flexible cruising, casual dining, strong entertainment, and a relaxed approach to planning your onboard experience. We have personally enjoyed Norwegian, especially because it fits how we often like to cruise.
Celebrity may feel more elevated and possibly more refined, depending on the ship and itinerary.
That does not automatically make it better.
It may simply be better for a different kind of trip.
For example, we could see Celebrity being appealing for a couples cruise, a quieter anniversary trip, a premium Alaska sailing, or a more destination-focused Europe cruise.
Norwegian may still be a better fit when the price is right, the itinerary works, the entertainment matters, or the casual flexibility is a big part of the appeal.
This is where cruise planning becomes less about brand loyalty and more about matching the trip to the traveler.
Celebrity’s All Included Pricing Is Worth Understanding
One thing that stands out with Celebrity is its “All Included” pricing option.
That can make the cruise price easier to understand for some travelers, but it also means comparing Celebrity to other cruise lines requires careful math.
More detail: What we would compare before booking
Celebrity’s All Included pricing generally bundles a Classic Drinks Package and Basic Wi-Fi when that rate is selected on eligible bookings. That can be useful, but it does not mean every traveler should automatically pick that option.
This is one of those areas where the advertised cruise fare may not tell the full story.
Before deciding whether Celebrity is a good value, we would want to compare:
- The cruise-only fare versus the All Included fare
- What drinks are actually included in the Classic Drinks Package
- Whether Basic Wi-Fi is enough for the traveler
- Whether gratuities are included or separate on the specific booking
- How the total price compares to Princess packages or Norwegian’s current pricing model
- Whether the traveler would actually use the included benefits
This is where we would not want someone to simply say, “Celebrity is more expensive,” or “Celebrity includes more.”
Both may be true in some situations. Neither may be true in others.
The only way to know is to compare the actual trip.
Celebrity May Be Better For Travelers Who Know What They Value
Celebrity may not be the best cruise line for someone who only wants the lowest possible cruise fare.
But it may be a strong fit for someone who has a better sense of what matters to them.
More detail: When Celebrity may fit well
Celebrity may make sense if:
- You do not need waterslides or giant family activity zones.
- You care about ship design and atmosphere.
- You want a more adult-feeling cruise without choosing an adults-only line.
- You are willing to pay more for a cruise that feels more polished.
- You want to compare a premium cruise line against Princess.
This is why we think Celebrity belongs in the conversation.
Not for everyone.
But definitely for some travelers.
When Celebrity May Not Be The Best Fit
Celebrity will not be the right answer for every cruise.
It may not be the best fit if the traveler is focused mainly on the lowest upfront price, heavy family activities, high-energy nightlife, or a very casual party-style cruise.
More detail: Why premium is not always better
Celebrity may also not be the best fit if the traveler would be happier putting the same money toward a longer cruise, a better cabin on another line, or more spending money for excursions.
That is always part of the value conversation.
A cruise that looks nicer is not automatically a better value.
A more premium cruise line is only worth paying for if the premium parts matter to you.
That is one of the biggest things we would want people to think through before booking Celebrity.
The Ship May Matter As Much As The Cruise Line
One thing we would want to research carefully with Celebrity is the ship.
That is true with almost every cruise line, but it may be especially important when comparing older ships, refreshed ships, and newer Edge Series ships.
More detail: What we would check by ship
A traveler’s experience on one Celebrity ship may not perfectly reflect what they would experience across the entire fleet.
That is why we would want to compare:
- The specific ship
- The age and style of the ship
- Recent updates or renovations
- Dining options
- Entertainment style
- Cabin categories
- Suite or Retreat options
- AquaClass or Concierge Class value
- Itinerary and port times
- Total price compared with similar cruise options
This is also why broad cruise-line rankings can be misleading.
The right Celebrity ship on the right itinerary at the right price could be a great fit.
A different ship, sailing, or price point might not be.
The Retreat And AquaClass Are Worth Researching Separately
Celebrity also has cabin categories and experiences that may deserve their own research.
We would not want to casually say either one is “worth it” without comparing the actual price difference.
More detail: Why upgraded experiences need real math
The Retreat is Celebrity’s suite experience, and AquaClass is often marketed toward travelers interested in wellness-focused perks and access to Blu, a dedicated restaurant for AquaClass guests.
Those experiences are worth paying attention to.
For some travelers, the upgraded experience may be the reason to choose Celebrity.
For others, the regular veranda cabin may already provide the right balance of comfort and value.
This is another area where the best answer depends on the traveler.
If someone would truly use the suite benefits, private spaces, upgraded dining, or AquaClass perks, the extra cost may be easier to justify.
If not, it may be money better spent elsewhere.
Celebrity Could Be Interesting For Alaska, Europe, And The Caribbean
Celebrity sails many of the destinations people commonly compare when planning a cruise, including Alaska, Europe, and the Caribbean.
That makes it a useful cruise line to include when researching certain trips.
More detail: How destination changes the comparison
For Alaska, we would want to compare Celebrity against Princess, Holland America, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean.
For Europe, we would want to compare Celebrity against Princess, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and possibly other lines depending on the itinerary.
For the Caribbean, we would want to compare Celebrity against Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Princess, and MSC.
The destination matters because a cruise line that looks like the best fit in one region may not be the best fit somewhere else.
Sometimes the itinerary and port times matter more than the brand.
Sometimes the ship matters more.
Sometimes the price difference makes the decision.
That is why we would not look at Celebrity in isolation.
We would compare it against the real alternatives for the exact trip.
The Big Question: Is Celebrity Worth The Premium?
This is probably the main question most travelers will ask.
Is Celebrity worth paying more? Maybe. But not automatically.
More detail: How we would think about the value
Celebrity may be worth the premium if the traveler values the things Celebrity appears to emphasize: a more elevated feel, modern ships, better dining expectations, adult-friendly spaces, and a more refined onboard experience.
Celebrity may not be worth the premium if the traveler is mainly looking for the cheapest fare, the most kid-friendly activities, or the biggest entertainment-heavy ship.
It comes back to fit.
A higher price can still be a good value if the experience matches what you want.
A lower price can still be a poor value if the cruise does not fit your travel style.
That is the way we would approach Celebrity.
Not as “better” or “worse.”
Just as a different kind of cruise that may be exactly right for some travelers.
What We Still Want To Learn About Celebrity
Since we have not sailed Celebrity yet, there are several things we would want to learn before writing stronger opinions.
That is why this article is meant to be a starting point, not a final verdict.
More detail: What we want to research more deeply
We would want to better understand:
- How the onboard atmosphere actually feels
- How food compares to Norwegian, Princess, and other cruise lines
- Whether the All Included pricing feels like a good value in real life
- How Basic Wi-Fi performs
- Whether the Classic Drinks Package is enough for most travelers
- How entertainment feels compared with other lines
- How Celebrity handles crowds, service, and dining
- Which ships feel like the best value
- Whether AquaClass or The Retreat are worth the added cost
- How Celebrity performs in Alaska, Europe, and the Caribbean
Those are the kinds of things we would want to learn through a combination of research, client feedback, community input, and eventually our own sailing experience.
Until then, we want to be clear about what this article is and is not.
It is not a firsthand Celebrity review.
It is a starting point for deciding whether Celebrity belongs in your cruise comparison.
Final Thoughts
Celebrity Cruises may be a very good fit for travelers who want a more premium cruise experience without going fully into luxury cruising.
It may be especially interesting for couples, adults, empty nesters, and travelers who want a more polished ship atmosphere than some of the more casual mainstream cruise lines.
But Celebrity is not automatically the best choice just because it is positioned as premium.
The real question is whether Celebrity fits the trip you are trying to take.
For some travelers, the answer may be yes.
For others, Norwegian, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Holland America, MSC, or another cruise line may make more sense.
That is why we want to keep learning, keep comparing, and keep building out this section carefully.
Celebrity is definitely on our list to understand better. We are just not going to pretend we know everything about it yet.
